What does Schwaben stand for?
Schwaben (in English „Swabia“) is the name of not only a cultural group in Germany, but also a region that makes part of the German states Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.
As a historical area of Germany, Schwaben has a particular dialect named “Swabian”. The historical territory comprised large parts of the state Baden-Württemberg as well as the administrative region of Bavaria. In the Middle Ages, also large areas of Switzerland and the Alsace (today French territory) were part of Swabia.
In Swabia is located the city of birth of Gottlieb Daimler, inventor of the first modern car and founder of the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (today known as Daimler AG). Nowadays the region is internationally renowned for being one of the most important centers for automotive development.
